Did you just receive a lovely flower bouquet from FloraQueen at home from someone who loves you very much? The beauty, the aroma and the vivid colors of the flowers will give life to your home, so it is natural that you want to keep them alive and fresh for as long as possible. However, this can be a big challenge if you do not have the right information. For example, did you know that it is better to pour warm water than cold water in the vase where you will place your bouquet?
So that your flowers are kept at their best for many days, in this post we bring you the best tips and tricks you must follow to get it. Do you think we start taking care of your flowers right now?
1. Remove the packaging
Whether red roses, pink lilies, multicolored tulips or any other type of flower, our bouquets are always protected by a transparent envelope . When you receive it, you must remove it so that the air circulates between the flowers and they do not “sweat” due to lack of transpiration. Spraying the flowers with water is also very advisable.
2. Cut the stems in bevel
Before placing the flowers in a vase, cut their stems one by one in bevel, that is, diagonally with a 45 degree angle. You can do it with normal sharp scissors, with gardening tools or with a knife. Cutting the stems in this way increases the surface by which the flower can absorb the water. In addition, it is highly recommended to continue cutting the stems every three days.
3. Warm water
Even if you do not believe it, one of the best tricks for your cut flowers to last much longer is to use warm water from the first moment you place them in the vase. Avoid the use of cold water and opt for warm water, since the flowers absorb it much more easily.
4. Do not put too many flowers in the same vase
Many flowers in the same vase is a visual pleasure, but it will also make your flowers last less. A large amount of flowers in a small space will prevent the correct circulation of air between them. For that reason, in bouquets with many flowers, we advise you to separate them in two different containers .
5. Use the preservative or flower food
When you receive fresh flowers from FloraQueen you will see that your bouquet is accompanied by a small envelope containing “flower food” . It is a substance that will preserve your flowers for longer. You should pour its contents into the warm water of the vase.
In addition, you can make your own homemade preservatives. For example, sugar feeds your flowers, while white vinegar prevents bacteria. Just add a few spoonfuls of these ingredients per liter of warm water.
6. Change the water every two days
It is essential to change the water of the vase quite frequently, at least every two days, although, if you renew it daily, better than better. This will prevent microorganisms and bacteria from proliferating inside the container. Also, before changing the water, make sure to clean the vase thoroughly to eliminate waste.
7. Cut the submerged leaves
You should also pay special attention to cut the leaves that are submerged in the water of the vase, as these can be a source of infection for the rest of living flowers. Also remove those leaves and flowers already withered.
8. Do not place in places of current or direct sunlight
When choosing the place of your home where you will place the bouquet, you must take into account that the air currents will cause the flowers to fall before their time. Also, you should avoid that the bouquet receives direct sunlight, but enjoy clarity .
